Red, White & Bluegrass with Grand Ole’ Ditch
September 10, 2016 @ 8:00 pm - 11:00 pm
Red, White and Bluegrass featuring Grand Ole Ditch will be held at Canal Place on September 10, 2016.
Grand Ole’ Ditch is all about having some new fun with that old Appalachian sound. They began as a home-brewed bluegrass band out of the mountain town of Cumberland MD, deriving their name from an important piece of Western Maryland history: the Chesapeake and Ohio Canal. The Canal, nicknamed the Grand Old Ditch, carried coal from the Allegheny Mountains to the East Coast during the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
Bluegrass told the story of the people of this era, and was an essential part of their culture. Grand Ole’ Ditch is now creating a presence of their own in the Mid-Atlantic bluegrass scene, bringing you the nickel-wound vibrations you’ve always longed for, emanating from the pigeon-holed boxes we have all come to know. The songwriting is inventive with caramelized harmonies. The banjo is dazzling. The dobro is silky. The bass gallops along to a freight train guitar, while the fiddle sizzles around a fiery mandolin, and the drummer boy marches them onward. From one era to another, it’s music to your ears.
Formed in Fall/Winter of 2012, Grand Ole’ Ditch has now filled their calendar with numerous shows including appearances with Larry Keel & Natural Bridge, The Hackensaw Boys, Cabinet, The Travelin’ McCoury’s, The Seldom Scene, The Steep Canyon Rangers, and many more. They have appeared at many of the region’s premier music festivals and venues, achieving several awards along the way.
