MLK Day Celebration

The Allegany County NAACP and Allegany College of Maryland’s Democracy Commitment team will hold a celebration of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s birthday featuring a dramatic presentation of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s historic “I Have A Dream” speech by Rev. Darin Mency on Monday, January 16, 2017 from 7:00 – 9:00 pm in the Zimmer Theatre on the campus of Allegany College of Maryland. This event is free and the public is invited to attend.

The program will highlight the NAACP’s 2017 theme, “Building the Community that Empowers Us,” and will include the participation of clergy and representatives of several local religious ministries. During the program, Allegany County NAACP Branch President Carmen B. Jackson will announce the recipients of the First Annual NAACP Scholarship program awards and provide application information for the 2017 scholarship program.

The program will also include recognition of Ms. Mary Barnett, Rev. Caroline Kelly, and Dr. Elesha Ruminski for their Community Leadership and installation of the following officers for the upcoming year: Mrs. Carmen B. Jackson, President; Pastor Martha Bell, Vice President; Mr. Darrell Lee Powell, Treasurer; Dr. Joy Kroeger-Mappes, Secretary.
