Joe Maphis Tribute Concert featuring The Burrito Brothers
The Burrito Brothers are still going strong!
This is a group with an illustrious past and a bright future. Trace the winding paths of Country, R&B and Rock & Roll and you’ll find them there along with their contemporaries like Poco, Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, Commander Cody, Creedence Clearwater Rival, New Riders, Pure Prairie League and many others. That’s home turf for The Burrito Brothers. Country Rock’s big bang came in Los Angeles in the late ‘60s. In 1968, Ian Dunlop and Barry Tashian started The Flying Burrito Brothers. A year later with Gram Parsons and Chris Hillman aboard, the group released their first LP, “The Gilded Palace of Sin”, a confirmed legendary classic which is on the Rolling Stone Magazine’s list of Greatest Albums of All Time. The band has continued to celebrate this musical legacy and serve up fresh contributions to The Burrito Brothers incredible body of work. They’ve never fallen short of being outstanding and they certainly are today. You can hear their influence on many of the artists that came after them such as the Eagles, Jimmy Buffett, Dwight Yoakam and Zac Brown.
At the beginning of the 1980s they moved their base of operations from Los Angeles to Nashville and have remained based out of Music City ever since. At that point they shortened the name to The Burrito Brothers. Though there have been changes, as with every band that lasts so long, The Burrito Brothers are all long-term “Cosmic American Music” veterans who’ve climbed the branches of the “many tall pines” first planted in 1968. They carry on the tradition of classic late ‘60s and early ’70s “Hippie Country-Rock” music and make it sound new with a mix of Rock & Roll, Country and R&B.
The band keeps re-inventing itself and evolving. In 2011, they released the critically acclaimed award winning album, “Sound As Ever” which found incredible success in Europe where they continue to enjoy a very loyal following. Almost 50 years have passed since the beginning of the Country-Rock movement and The Burrito Brothers are still at the forefront of the genre. 2016 will find them touring North America and releasing a CD of all new music, as well as, a ‘best of live’ compilation.
The Burrito Brothers Classic Hits Include “Wild Horses”, “Sin City”, “Wheels”, “Beggars Banquet”, “White Line Fever”, “Dim Lights, Thick Smoke And Loud, Loud Music”, “Close Up The Honky Tonks”, “I Ain’t No Angel”, “Hot Burrito #1”, “Christine’s Tune”, “Dark End Of The Street”, “Hearts On Fire”, “She’s A Friend Of A Friend”, “Does She Wish She Was Single Again”, “If Something Should Come Between Us(Let It Be Love)”, “Closer To You”, “I’m Drinkin’ Canada Dry”, “Blue And Broken Hearted Me”, “Almost Saturday Night”, “My Kind Of Lady”, “Cody, Cody”, “Building Fires”, “Bon Soir Blues”, “Waitin’ For Love To Begin”, “She Belongs To Everyone But Me”…
