Don’t Let the Devil In
December 16, 2016 @ 7:00 pm - 9:30 pm
Courtney Sell’s anticipated 2016 horror thriller “Don’t Let the Devil In” will be seeing its Maryland theatrical debut at the historic Embassy Theater in Cumberland. The film, which was shot on location in the heart of Appalachia, will be being presented by the director personally on December 16th at 7PM. The director said, “We would like to give a huge thanks to the Embassy for this incredible honor.” There will be a $5 suggested donation to help affray heating costs.
“Don’t Let the Devil In” is the first horror feature by Sell, who primarily works in the documentary genre. It pays homage to various exploitation films of the 70’s and 80’s such as “Race with the Devil”, “All the Colors of the Dark”, “Morbo” and numerous Giallo films. After suffering a miscarriage, land developer John Harris and his young wife Samantha decide to leave the city in search of a peaceful new start to their life together. John is hired to oversee a casino development deal deep in the heart of frosty Appalachia and is warned that he may face some resistance from the townsfolk. Ignoring the severity of the warning, the Harrises arrive in small town Appalachia and almost immediately things begin to go wrong. Soon enough, the couple find themselves trapped within a tapestry of pure evil & small town illuminati culminating in an explosive ending. The film was written, edited and directed by Sell, who also performed the score, and stars newcomers Marc Slanger and Jordan Lewis, along with Mark Baker, and legendary Ed Wood performer Conrad Brooks (“Plan 9 From Outer Space,” “Glen or Glenda”). Other local actors include Dr. David Press, Mark Ashby, Sue Baker Schulten, Anthony Anastasio, and others. “Don’t Let the Devil In” was self-financed on a budget of $30,000 dollars, filmed on location in Appalachia, New York City, Massachusetts and West Virgina.
