Alexis Lavine: Luminous Watercolors
October 6 @ 11:00 am - October 29 @ 5:00 pm
The Allegany Arts Council is pleased to welcome Alexis Lavine, a professional watercolor artist and art instructor. Through her work, she captures realistic scenes in rich, luminous color. Beginning as free hand drawings, each piece is designed around abstract shapes, values, colors, movement, as well as positive and negative spaces. These elements create a contemporary feel and reflect her personal reactions to the subjects of her paintings.
Alexis lived in Cumberland for over 20 years, where she became a passionate Plein Air painter. The Mountain Maryland scenery – mountains, farms, and historic architecture – inspired her. During that time, she was a founding member of the Western Maryland Watercolor Society and an active exhibitor, Board member, and Officer of the Allegany Arts Council. She also owned and operated the Gallery on Greene from 1990 until 2001. Alexis now lives in central North Carolina, where she spends significant time in her studio. There she has found new ways to more effectively communicate with her viewers.
After earning two Bachelor’s degrees and a Master’s degree, Alexis began her career as a painter. She has since been published in Splash, The Artistic Touch, The Best of Watercolor, and Watercolor Artist Magazine. She is a signature member of the National Watercolor Society, Transparent Watercolor Society of America, Watercolor West, North East Watercolor Society, and Southern Watercolor Society. Her work can be found in galleries in the mid-Atlantic and Southern states, as well as the Virgin Islands.
