New Wayfinding Signage
Installing 7 new directional signs and 5 maps throughout Downtown Cumberland. This will help connect downtown to the trails, Amtrak station and Canal Place for pedestrians.
Centre Street Parklet
Completed a major redevelopment of the Centre Street Parklet. The new parklet is now ADA compliant. We have removed the fountains and rotting pergola and poured new concrete. The next phase of the project will be to add design elements.
Downtown District Branding
New downtown branding ‘Historic City Center’ is being implemented with new banners and hardware being installed throughout the downtown district. The banners encourage shoppers to ‘Shop, Dine, & Play’
DDC is working with CBIZ, Rehab 1st and Uncle Jack’s to install major welcome murals for Downtown Cumberland on the side of their buildings. It would be visible from the GAP Trail, Amtrak and Canal Place.
Downtown Events Programming
Despite major grant reductions, we continue to present events and activities and leverage resources to produce more frequent events and build upon the atmosphere created by popular downtown events.
We continue to push SHA for new signage on I-68 to attract travelers off the interstate and into Downtown Cumberland tourist attractions.
Better Access to Parking
DDC continues to seek better parking systems in the George Street Garage. We have been very active pushing for clearer signage, better systems and a safer environment, more welcoming environment. Working with worked with city officials to create a free surface parking lot for downtown under the I-68 bridge between Mechanic and Centre Streets.
